| Party at Evenhill as Dan Leaves Medical
Rotation at K&C. |
|
At the Evenhill: Roly Jenkins, Mike Gonsalves, Vanessa and Nick
Saunders. |
| I've finished my time as a medical SHO at
Kent & Canterbury Hospital, and am about to start my GP
training. To celebrate this, the departure of all our current
house officers, and Nick, Tim & Aisha finishing their MRCP
part 1 exam, we went out to the Evenhill in Littlebourne, a
few miles out of Canterbury. A very pleasant and slightly drunken
evening was had by all. On Wednesday at |

and bags under eyes. Another farewell goes to Rick Inglis who
is leaving medicine altogether and going to find his fortune
in the City. Oi, Rick, lend us a grand, mate! |

| Vanessa's Twenty-Week Ultrasound |
| On Tuesday 30th January, Vanessa had her
second antenatal ultrasound scan, and we're very pleased to
report that everything was in order! We were amazed to see the
wee nipper swallowing, holding its foot and sucking its thumb...
not all at the same time. Just for the record - we decided not
to find out the baby's sex as we'd rather have a surprise on
the day, although Vanessa is convinced it's a boy. |
|
Ultrasound scan at twenty weeks, clearly showing the baby's
profile and Horton nose (well, maybe). On the live scan we were
able to watch it swallow amniotic fluid - on the drink already! |
| The pregnancy is going very well so far...
we have been able to feel the baby moving for a couple of weeks
now, and Vanessa is definitely in the 'glowing' stage of the
second trimester. The bump is rapidly enlarging, providing excuses
for more clothes every few weeks - but the waddling gait is
just around the corner. Vanessa is planning to visit Jo Groombridge
in Portugal in March, so they can waddle round Cascais together. |
| Our next visit to North Devon... |
| Vanessa and I will be driving down to Devon
on Friday 2nd February for a long weekend, to visit Mum and
catch up with a few friends. |

| Work begins on Crash Course Second
Editions. |
| Nearly three years after publication of
the first Crash Course titles, I've had to drag myself back
to the word processor (not as easy as when I was a medical student)
to start designing the second editions. The series has proved
to be very popular with students and has already been translated
into Spanish, Russian and Chinese. |
|
Crash Course Renal and Urinary Systems by Nisha Mirpuri and
Pratiksha Patel. |
| There will be some changes to the format
of the books, and a new group of students will act as rewriters
to update each title. This should make sure we keep in touch
with changes in teaching styles at medical schools across the
UK. I'll be setting up a dedicated portion of this site to provide
information about the series, as well as a development forum
for authors and publishing staff. It's a long process though,
so don't expect to see the new books for at least two years! |
| GPVTS Rotation |
| I'm pleased to announce that from the 7th
February, I'll be starting my new career as a GP Registrar on
the Canterbury training rotation. I kick off with three months
in practice at the Northgate Medical Centre, with Dr Peter Biggs
as my trainer - and hardly any on-call for ages! Bliss. |
