Archives
I'm using Flickr for all my up to date photographs now, as I no longer have the time to produce galleries on this site like I used to. All the old stuff is still here though, in the archives!
My Awards Much to my surprise, this website has managed to win an award or two
since I built it in February 2000.

| • Milo Climbing
|
Milo plays on a climbing frame, Howlett's Zoo, September 2006. Leica M7 with Summilux 50mm Asph on Kodak Tri-X 400
Milo tries to clamber up the wooden climbing frame with Rafferty and Monty on his day out at the zoo. He copies his older brothers all the time now, and does sometimes bite off more than he can chew!

| • Mercery Lane in the rain
|
Mercery Lane, Canterbury, March 2005. Canon EOS 1V with 50mm f/1.4 on Kodak BW400CN
I was looking through some old negatives from last year and found this picture which I had completely overlooked - a nice street scene in central Canterbury with lovely reflections on the rain-soaked cobbles.

| • Walking on Tankerton Beach
|
Vanessa, Milo and Rafferty on Tankerton beach. Leica M6 with Elmarit 21mm Asph on Kodak BW400CN
I took this shot in early May this year during a nice bracing walk on the beach at Tankerton. It was a cold overcast day but we all had fun at the beach and I got to try out a new 21mm lens for the M6 which produced some excellent pictures.

| • Four shots from Herne Bay
|
Winter morning on Herne Bay beach, March 2006 Canon 1Ds Mark II with EF 135mm f/2.0L (1/500th sec f/16 ISO 200)
I took these photographs on a cold morning in March of this year, after finishing a night shift, but as I was otherwise quite busy have not managed to put any onto the site yet. This first picture looks along the beach at Herne Bay towards Reculver.
Reflections in the sand, Herne Bay, March 2006 Canon 1Ds Mark II with EF 135mm f/2.0L (1/320th sec f/20 ISO 320)
This shot shows one of a number of bright yellow buoys lying on the sand at low tide, which contrasted well with the blues and browns of the beach and sky.
Blue sand ripples and lugworm casts, Herne Bay, March 2006 Canon 1Ds Mark II with EF 135mm f/2.0L (1/320th sec f/20 ISO 320)
The morning sunlight reflected back off the sand and highlighted the rippled patterns and numerous lugworm casts. I enhanced the natural blue tones of the picture to emphasize the cold of the winter morning.
Old breakwater and pebbles, Herne Bay, March 2006 Canon 1Ds Mark II with EF 135mm f/2.0L (1/500th sec f/16 ISO 200)
A close up of one of the old wooden posts that make up the many groynes along Herne Bay beach, along with glistening wet pebbles.

| • Easy Tiger
|

After a day at the zoo, Milo sleeps soundly in his pushchair with his new cuddly tiger.

| • Standing on a fence
|
The Horton-Szar boys and the Holt girls, Cheveley, September 2006. Contax G2 with 45mm f/2 on Fujifilm 400H Pro
In early September we visited our friends Ruth and Nathan in Cambridgeshire to celebrate both Ruth and Melissa's birthdays, which are on the same day. I managed to get this shot of all our children as they stood on the fence watching cows in the adjacent field.

| • Homework
|
Rafferty doing his homework. Canterbury, September 2006. Leica M7 with Summilux 50mm f/1.4 Asph on Kodak BW400CN
Raffy practices his drawing and writing his letters. Convincing him that this is a good idea has been quite a struggle until recently, but much to our relief he has become more enthusiastic about his reading and writing since starting his new school year. Please note that the wine glass to the left isn't Raffy's!

| • Slicing the Cake
|
Watching the cake slicing, Cheveley, September 2006. Leica MP with Summilux 50mm f/1.4 Asph on Kodak BW400CN
This was taken last month when we visited the Holts for Ruth & Melissa's joint birthday celebrations. Monty and Juliet watch with intense concentration as Nathan slices the birthday cake. Chocolate cake is important...

| • On Top Of The World
|
Rafferty and Vanessa on top of the world. Canterbury, September 2006. Leica M7 with Summilux 50mm f/1.4 Asph on Kodak BW400CN
Well, perhaps not on top of the actual world, but on top of a large historic mound overlooking Dane John in Canterbury at least! I met Vanessa and Raffy for lunch one beautiful September day, and we climbed up to have a look at the view. Raffy wanted to fly so Vanessa helped him.

| • Summer Sunshine
|
Vanessa and Mark silhouetted with bright summer sunshine, watching the children play at Emily's birthday party, July 2006. Leica M6 with Summilux 50mm f/1.4 on Kodak BW400CN
I took this picture a few months ago, at the height of the summer. The image has languished in my negative file for a while, but I recently spotted the potential of this scene, and with a little cropping I think this composition works nicely.
