Archives
I'm using Flickr for all my up to date photographs now, as I no longer have the time to produce galleries on this site like I used to. All the old stuff is still here though, in the archives!
My Awards Much to my surprise, this website has managed to win an award or two
since I built it in February 2000.

| • Blue Bench and musings on the Leica M6...
|
Blue Bench on Herne Bay Pier, September 2005 Leica M6 with Summicron 50mm f/2 on Jessops ISO 200 film
I shot this last week with my latest gadget, a Leica M6 rangefinder that I bought on eBay recently; I'd always meant to try one of these legendary cameras to see what all the fuss was about. If I don't like it I can just sell it on, I thought. Lovely little camera, small, neat, solid, beautifully made and completely manual - a very retro photographic experience. I really wanted to like this camera, but my initial impressions were that I was going to miss a lot of shots!
Since then, it has grown on me (I think this happens to most people who try this type of camera) and I've found it to be a fantastic 'walkaround' camera. Even some of the shots of the boys I thought I'd missed turned out really well when I got the prints back! I'm hooked...

| • This Morning in Herne Bay
|
Morning sun on the sea wall, Herne Bay, September 2005 Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II with EF 35mm f/1.4L @ (1/30sec f/22 ISO 320)
This morning was beautiful, crisp and clear. At 8am I finished my out-of-hours shift for Stourcare and headed to the sea front in Herne Bay to make the most of the light. Shooting at this time of year is easier as the good morning light can be found at less unsocial hours than in the summer!

Woodland Gate, Westbere, Kent, September 2005 Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II with EF 35mm f/1.4L (1/100sec f/10 ISO 400)
I took this today on a walk through the woods in Westbere, while investigating the large lakes there. It looks like a very beautiful spot that might yield some good pictures!

| • Nearly four weeks old now...
|
A nice monochrome shot of our young man, aged three and a half weeks.
More news on Milo and the rest of the household... everyone is well, Milo is growing nicely, has managed a few gurgles and follows objects and sounds with his eyes. Vanessa feels like Ermintrude with the amount of breastfeeding she is doing, and I seem to have the knack of settling him to sleep, luckily. Or it might be the fact that he always seems to snuggle into my armpit, so maybe I'm just gassing him...?
Raffy and Monty are still very happy with having him around - in fact Milo's arrival hasn't really bothered them at all. Far more disruption has been done to our routine by Raffy's starting school and all the changes that brings. Anyway - all is trundling along pretty well...

| • Milo over two weeks old...
|
Rafferty and Monty cuddle Milo in the playroom. He is two weeks old in this picture.
Milo is doing well - he was two weeks old on Wednesday, and today weighs 7lb 11oz so has started to grow nicely. Much more awake and has started looking around now. Raffy and Monty are being very good and are very gentle with their little brother. The rest of us are all well and settling into the new routine...

| • Portfolio Redesign and Update
|
I've redesigned the Portfolio section using Blogger to make it much easier to update and keep organised. I've also updated it with recent pictures from Iceland and Devon. Hopefully I'll be better able to keep up to date now!
