Archives
I'm using Flickr for all my up to date photographs now, as I no longer have the time to produce galleries on this site like I used to. All the old stuff is still here though, in the archives!
My Awards Much to my surprise, this website has managed to win an award or two
since I built it in February 2000.

| • More Iceland pictures...
|
Here are a few more pictures from my Iceland trip. I'll set up a proper collection in the next few days when I have edited all the images.
Gulfoss Waterfall in the mist, Gulfoss, Iceland, April 2005 Canon EOS-1Ds Mk II with EF 16-35mm f/2.8L @ 16mm (1/25sec f/10 ISO 100)
Gulfoss Waterfall is one of Iceland's most famous landmarks and the main destination on the tour. I took this shot from the path leading down to the waterfall and later desaturated it in Photoshop to bring out the stormy sky. I had to be quick as there was a constant fine mist from the waterfall which threatened to soak me and the camera.
Pingvallavatn, Iceland, April 2005 Canon EOS-1Ds Mk II with EF 70-200mm f/2.8L @ 90mm (1/500sec f/10 ISO 400)
After visiting Gulfoss and Geysir, we stopped by Pingvallavatn, which is the largest lake in Iceland, and a low valley that runs along the rift between the American and Eurasian continental plates.Long crevaces in ground bore witness to the fault lines beneath.

| • First Iceland pictures ready...
|
Over the weekend I flew to Iceland for the day to take some pictures of the wonderful landscapes there. Vanessa had bought me the tickets as a Valentine's Day gift after my banging on for ages about wanting to visit the place because of the incredibly photogenic scenery. I arrived in Reykjavik at about 10.30am and we headed north to Gulfoss and Geysir. After seeing the waterfall at Gulfoss and the geyser at Geysir (no coincidence there) we drove back to the city on ungraded gravel tracks via the huge Pingvallavatn Lake. In all a wonderful trip, and many great pictures were had - but I couldn't help thinking of the thousands of frames we drove past. I will definitely be returning to Iceland - for two weeks with a hired 4x4, which will be the only way to do this incredible island justice.
Mineral deposits in the hot springs, Geysir, Iceland, April 2005 Canon EOS-1Ds Mk II with EF 16-35mm f/2.8L @ 17mm (1/60sec f/16 ISO 400)
This shot was handheld during a rain shower in the geothermal area at Geysir. The stream in the foreground is hot at about 90 degrees Centigrade, and I had to be careful not to get my feet wet. A Lee 0.9 ND grad filter was used to keep the sky within the dynamic range of the sensor.
Man Crossing Stream, Geysir, Iceland, April 2005 Canon EOS-1Ds Mk II with EF 16-35mm f/2.8L @ 26mm (1/200sec f/7.1 ISO 100)
Here's another shot taken in the geothermal area at Geysir; just down the hill from the Strokkur geyser site there was an improvised plank bridge over the boiling stream. I snatched this shot as a random tourist walked across.

| • New 'Rafferty & Monty' pictures ready...
|
I've added some more pictures to the 'Rafferty & Monty' collection. We have taken so many pictures for April alone that I've already filled a page, which you can see by clicking here.
Raffy on a sunny afternoon, Sturry, April 2005 Canon EOS-1Ds with EF 24-70mm f/2.8L @ 38mm (1/400sec f/4.5 ISO 200)
I took this picture of Raffy in our back garden while we were enjoying a beautiful sunny afternoon. The deep blue of the sky was enhanced with a polarising filter.

| • Portrait of Max
|
Our friends Anna & Mark Weinel invited us over for Sunday dinner a couple of weeks ago. Mark is rather a good cook so this was an opportunity not to be missed. The boys had a wonderful time playing with Morgan in the garden, and I'd agreed to take a few pictures of their baby son Max.
Portrait of Max Weinel, West Hougham, April 2005 Canon EOS-1V with EF 50mm f/1.4 on Kodak BW400CN(1/100sec f/4.5 ISO 400)
I'm pleased to say we got quite a few good pictures - largely because Max is so photogenic. Here's a nice shot of him taken with avaialble light only, reclining in his baby bouncer.

| • Hortonfest 2005 pictures are ready for viewing...
|
On Sunday 3rd April we had a Horton family gathering, hosted by my uncle and aunt, Rob & Maggie Horton. The particular occasion was that this would be the last big get-together before my sister Vickie emigrates to Australia in May. We had a great day and some nice weather for an afternoon in the garden. The pictures I took of the event are now ready - click here to see them.
'It's not easy being small!', Ruislip, April 2005 Canon EOS-1V with EF 24-70 f/2.8L on Kodak BW400CN(1/250sec f/5.6 ISO 400)
This was one of my favourite pictures of the day, showing Monty trying to get his hands on the table football machine. As you'll see from the pictures, he had more success later.

| • Rafferty in Silhouette
|
I was delighted to take delivery of a new lens this weekend, which I had been saving up for - an EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM zoom. I hadn't used one of the L-series telephoto lenses before and this is an impressive piece of kit. Although quite heavy, it is very nicely balanced and extremely good for portrait work. The Image Stabiliser works very well and makes a noticeable difference to handheld shooting - especially with available light indoors.
Rafferty's Silhouette, Canterbury, April 2005 Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II with EF 70-200 f/2.8L (1/1250sec f/2.8 ISO 1600)
This was a candid shot taken while Raffy was engrossed in watching 'Little Bear' on Nick Jr channel this afternoon. His expression shows in the silhouette and the TV glare illuminates his eyes slightly which adds some depth to the image.

| • Easter 2005 Pictures ready for viewing...
|
I've added quite a few photographs taken over the Easter weekend, and thereabouts, to the website. You can see them by clicking on the link to the left, or by going to the main Pictures page.
Climbing up the Beach, Whitstable, March 2005 Canon EOS 1V with EF 16-35mm f/2.8L on Kodak BW400CN (1/80sec f/11 ISO 400)
This was taken on Easter Saturday, as we all went for an early morning walk by the sea in Whitstable. Vanessa and Eddie help Monty climb up the pebble beach in the morning mist.

| • A very Christian Easter Sunday
|
Here's a great picture from the Easter bank holiday. Our friends Neil & Michele Underhill always have a barbeque on Easter Sunday with an easter egg hunt for the children. This year was a great success even though the weather was less than clement. Raffy & Monty had a wonderful time; the lamb (Morrocan stylie) was wonderful; many eggs were had and the afternoon passed all too quickly. Many thanks!
